Medical<\/a> waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> is a widely used method for disposing of hazardous waste<\/a> in healthcare facilities. Incineration<\/a> involves the combustion<\/a> of waste<\/a> at high temperatures, reducing the volume of waste<\/a> and killing pathogens. However, this process can lead to the formation of pollutants, including particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), dioxins, and furans. These pollutants can cause respiratory problems, cancer, and other health<\/a> issues, and can also contribute to climate change.<\/p>\n

In Iraq<\/a>, the healthcare sector generates a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, estimated to be around 150-200 kg per day per hospital<\/a>. The lack of effective waste<\/a> management systems and inadequate regulations has led to uncontrolled emissions<\/a> from medical<\/a> waste<\/a> incinerators, compromising air quality and human health<\/a>. The Baladrus General Hospital<\/a>, located! in Baghdad, is one of the largest hospitals in Iraq<\/a>, generating a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This study aimed to evaluate the air pollution<\/a> emissions<\/a> from medical<\/a> waste<\/a> incinerators at Baladrus General Hospital<\/a> in Iraq<\/a>. The study involved a combination of field measurements and laboratory analysis. Field measurements were conducted using a portable<\/a> air quality monitoring system to measure PM, CO, VOCs, and other pollutants. The monitoring system was placed near the incinerator<\/a> stack to measure the emissions<\/a> directly.<\/p>\n
