Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Inkurunziza Orthopedic Specialized Hospital Waste Incinerator<\/a> in Reducing Waste<\/a>-Related Health<\/a> Risks<\/strong><\/p>\n

Introduction<\/p>\n

The Inkurunziza Orthopedic Specialized Hospital<\/a> in Rwanda<\/a> has been at the forefront of providing quality healthcare services to its patients. However, the hospital<\/a>’s waste<\/a> management practices have been a concern, with the potential to pose significant health<\/a> risks to patients, staff, and the surrounding community. In an effort to mitigate these risks, the hospital<\/a> installed a waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> to manage its medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. This article evaluates the effectiveness of the Inkurunziza Orthopedic Specialized Hospital waste incinerator<\/a> in reducing waste<\/a>-related health<\/a> risks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Medical<\/a> waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> is a common practice in many healthcare facilities worldwide. Incineration<\/a> involves the burning<\/a> of waste<\/a> at high temperatures, reducing the volume of waste<\/a> and destroying pathogens. However, incineration<\/a> can also release harmful pollutants, such as dioxins and furans, into the environment if not properly managed. The Inkurunziza Orthopedic Specialized Hospital waste incinerator<\/a> was installed to manage the hospital<\/a>’s medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, which includes hazardous and non-hazardous waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n

This study evaluated the effectiveness of the Inkurunziza Orthopedic Specialized Hospital waste incinerator<\/a> in reducing waste<\/a>-related health<\/a> risks.
