However, the management of healthcare waste<\/a> remains a major challenge, posing significant risks to public health<\/a> and the environment. In this article, we will explore the challenges and opportunities in Rwanda<\/a>’s healthcare waste management<\/a>, with a specific focus on the incineration<\/a> facility at Kiziguro District Hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Introduction to Healthcare Waste Management<\/a> in Rwanda<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Healthcare waste management<\/a> is a critical aspect of any healthcare system, as it ensures the safe disposal<\/a> of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> generated by healthcare facilities. In Rwanda<\/a>, healthcare waste<\/a> is categorized into three main types: non-hazardous, hazardous, and infectious waste<\/a>. The country’s healthcare waste management<\/a> policy emphasizes the importance of proper segregation, storage, transportation, and disposal<\/a> of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> to prevent environmental<\/a> pollution<\/a> and the spread of diseases.<\/p>\n

The facility has a capacity to incinerate up to 50 kilograms of waste<\/a> per hour, making it an essential component of the hospital<\/a>’s waste<\/a> management system.<\/p>\n
