The management of healthcare waste<\/a> is a critical concern for hospitals and healthcare facilities worldwide. In Rwanda<\/a>, the Rwamagana Level Two Teaching Hospital<\/a>, like many other healthcare facilities, generates significant amounts of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> that requires proper disposal<\/a>. The hospital<\/a> uses an incinerator<\/a> to manage its waste<\/a>, but the environmental<\/a> impact of this practice has not been thoroughly assessed. This case study aims to evaluate the environmental<\/a> impact of the Rwamagana Level Two Teaching Hospital<\/a>’s waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a>, with a focus on air and water pollution<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Rwamagana Level Two Teaching Hospital<\/a> is a major healthcare facility in Rwanda<\/a>, providing medical<\/a> services to a large population. The hospital<\/a> generates a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, including infectious and non-infectious waste<\/a>, sharps, and pharmaceutical waste<\/a>. To manage this waste<\/a>, the hospital<\/a> uses an incinerator<\/a>, which burns the waste<\/a> at high temperatures, reducing its volume and pathogen load. However, incineration<\/a> can release pollutants into the air and water, posing environmental<\/a> and health<\/a> risks.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n
