In Iraq<\/a>, the Khaniqin General Hospital<\/a>, located in the Diyala Governorate, is one of the largest healthcare facilities in the region. Like many hospitals, it uses waste<\/a> incinerators to dispose of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. However, the combustion<\/a> of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> in incinerators can release toxic pollutants into the atmosphere, posing a significant threat to public health<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The aim of this article is to assess the air pollution<\/a> emitted by the Khaniqin General Hospital<\/a> waste<\/a> incinerators and to highlight the potential health<\/a> risks associated with exposure to these pollutants. We will also discuss the current regulations and guidelines for hospital<\/a> waste<\/a> management in Iraq<\/a> and propose recommendations for reducing the adverse effects of waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> on public health<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hospital<\/a> waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> is a common method of disposing of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, including infectious waste<\/a>, anatomical waste<\/a>, and chemical waste<\/a>. Incinerators use high temperatures to combust waste<\/a>, reducing its volume and killing pathogens. However, the combustion<\/a> process also releases pollutants, such as particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n
