One of the key areas of concern is the management of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, which poses significant risks to human health<\/a> and the environment if not handled properly. This article will examine the waste<\/a> management practices at Nyarugenge District Hospital<\/a> in Kigali, Rwanda<\/a>, with a specific focus on its incinerator<\/a> and the environmental<\/a> implications of its use.<\/p>\n

Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Nyarugenge District Hospital<\/a> is a public hospital<\/a> located in the heart of Kigali, serving a population of over 300,000 people. The hospital<\/a> generates a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, including infectious and non-infectious waste<\/a>, sharps, and pharmaceuticals. Prior to the installation of the incinerator<\/a>, the hospital<\/a>’s waste<\/a> management practices were inadequate, with waste<\/a> being disposed of in an uncontrolled manner, posing risks to the environment and public health<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Incinerator<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
