The country’s commitment to environmental<\/a> sustainability and public health<\/a> is evident in its efforts to develop and implement effective waste<\/a> management systems, particularly in the healthcare sector. This article will examine the waste<\/a> management practices at Ruhengeri Hospital<\/a> in Rwanda<\/a>, with a focus on its incinerator<\/a> facility, and highlight the successes and challenges faced by the hospital<\/a> in managing its waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Introduction to Ruhengeri Hospital<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Ruhengeri Hospital<\/a>, also known as Musanze Hospital<\/a>, is a district hospital<\/a> located in the Musanze District of Rwanda<\/a>. The hospital<\/a> provides medical<\/a> services to a population of over 400,000 people and generates a significant amount of waste<\/a>, including infectious and non-infectious waste<\/a>, sharps, and pharmaceutical waste<\/a>. The hospital<\/a>’s waste<\/a> management practices are critical to preventing the spread of diseases and protecting the environment.<\/p>\n

Incinerator<\/a> Facility at Ruhengeri Hospital<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In 2012, Ruhengeri Hospital<\/a> installed an incinerator<\/a> facility to manage its infectious waste<\/a>.
