The Runyenjes Sub District Hospital<\/a>, located in Embu County, Kenya, has been facing challenges in managing its medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. In response, the hospital<\/a> has installed a waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> to reduce the volume of waste<\/a> and minimize the risk of environmental<\/a> pollution<\/a> and health<\/a> hazards. This article presents a case study of the Runyenjes Sub District Hospital<\/a>’s waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a>, highlighting its design, operation, and impact on environmental<\/a> and health<\/a> risk management.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Medical<\/a> waste<\/a> management is a significant concern in hospitals, as it poses risks to human health<\/a> and the environment. The World Health<\/a> Organization (WHO<\/a>) estimates that approximately 15% of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> is hazardous, including infectious waste<\/a>, pathological waste<\/a>, and chemical waste<\/a>. In Kenya, the management of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> is regulated by the Environmental<\/a> Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) and the Public Health<\/a> Act.
