The incinerator<\/a>, which has been in operation for several years, has raised concerns among residents and environmental<\/a> activists about its potential effects on the environment and human health<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Introduction<\/h2>\n

The rapid growth of urban populations in developing countries has led to an increase in waste<\/a> generation, posing significant environmental<\/a> and health<\/a> challenges. In Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, the management of healthcare waste<\/a> has become a pressing issue. St Crispin Afya Hospital<\/a>, a major healthcare facility in the city, has been using an on-site incinerator<\/a> to dispose of its medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. However, the incinerator<\/a> has been linked to air pollution<\/a> and potential health<\/a> risks to nearby residents.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/h2>\n

This study used a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. Air quality monitoring was conducted using portable<\/a> air quality monitors to measure particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), carbon monoxide (CO), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the vicinity of the hospital<\/a>. A questionnaire survey was also administered to nearby residents to gather information on their perceptions of the incinerator<\/a>’s impacts on their health<\/a> and environment.<\/p>\n
