In 2018, the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) conducted a study on the incinerator’s emissions, which found that the facility was releasing high levels of pollutants into the air.

Despite these findings, the incinerator has continued to operate, with some residents reporting a range of health problems that they believe are linked to the facility’s emissions. “I’ve lived in this area my whole life, and since the incinerator started operating, I’ve noticed a significant increase in respiratory problems,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “I’m not the only one – many of my neighbors have experienced similar issues.”

What’s Being Done?

In response to growing concerns, local officials have begun to take action.
