Waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> is a common practice in many healthcare facilities in Kenya, including Nyahururu Hospital<\/a>. The hospital<\/a>, located in the central region of Kenya, generates a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> that requires proper management to prevent environmental<\/a> and health<\/a> hazards. This case study aims to examine the experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> at Nyahururu Hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nyahururu Hospital<\/a> is a public health<\/a> facility that provides medical<\/a> services to a population of approximately 500,000 people. The hospital<\/a> generates an average of 500 kilograms of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> per day, including infectious waste<\/a>, sharps, and non-infectious waste<\/a>. In 2015, the hospital<\/a> installed a waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> to manage its medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. The incinerator<\/a> is designed to burn waste<\/a> at a temperature<\/a> of 1000\u00b0C, reducing the volume of waste<\/a> by 90% and producing ash that can be safely disposed of.<\/p>\n
