The improper disposal<\/a> of this waste<\/a> can have severe consequences for the environment, human health<\/a>, and the community at large. This article will examine the healthcare waste management<\/a> practices at Siaya County Referral Hospital<\/a>, with a specific focus on its incinerator<\/a> and the impact it has on the environment.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Siyaya County Referral Hospital<\/a> is one of the largest healthcare facilities in western Kenya, serving a population of over 1 million people. The hospital<\/a> generates a significant amount of waste<\/a>, including infectious, pathological, and pharmaceutical waste<\/a>. In an effort to manage this waste<\/a>, the hospital<\/a> has installed an incinerator<\/a>, which is designed to burn the waste<\/a> at high temperatures, reducing its volume and eliminating the potential for infection.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The incinerator<\/a> at Siaya County Referral Hospital<\/a> is a fluidized bed incinerator<\/a>, designed to burn waste<\/a> at temperatures of up to 1000\u00b0C. The incinerator<\/a> has a capacity to burn 500 kg of waste<\/a> per day and is equipped with a scrubber<\/a> system to reduce emissions<\/a> of particulate matter and gases.
