The lack of adequate infrastructure, insufficient funding, and limited expertise have led to the improper disposal<\/a> of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, including hazardous materials such as sharps, chemicals, and infectious waste<\/a>. The situation is exacerbated by the rapid growth of the healthcare sector, which has resulted in an increase in the volume of waste<\/a> generated.<\/p>\n

Introduction of Healthcare Waste Incineration at Nyamata Hospital<\/h2>\n

In an effort to address the healthcare waste management<\/a> challenges, Nyamata Level Two Teaching Hospital<\/a> introduced a waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> system in 2015. The system, which includes a state-of-the-art incinerator<\/a>, was designed to safely and efficiently dispose of hazardous medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. The incinerator<\/a> has a capacity to burn up to 50 kilograms of waste<\/a> per hour, reducing the volume of waste<\/a> by up to 90%.<\/p>\n
