In Rwanda<\/a>, the Kibungo Level Two Teaching Hospital<\/a> has implemented a waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> to reduce the risks associated with bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. This article aims to assess the effectiveness of the Kibungo Level Two Teaching Hospital waste incinerator<\/a> in reducing bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Introduction<\/h2>\n

Bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a> poses significant risks to human health<\/a> and the environment if not disposed of properly. The World Health<\/a> Organization (WHO<\/a>) estimates that approximately 15% of waste<\/a> generated by healthcare facilities is hazardous and requires special handling and disposal<\/a>. In Rwanda<\/a>, the Ministry of Health<\/a> has implemented regulations and guidelines for the management of bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, including the use of waste<\/a> incinerators.<\/p>\n

Background<\/h2>\n

The Kibungo Level Two Teaching Hospital<\/a> is a major healthcare facility in Rwanda<\/a> that generates significant amounts of bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. In response to the growing concern about bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a> management, the hospital<\/a> installed a waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> in 2018. The incinerator<\/a> is designed to burn waste<\/a> at high temperatures, reducing the volume of waste<\/a> and minimizing the risks associated with bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/h2>\n

To assess the effectiveness of the Kibungo Level Two Teaching Hospital waste incinerator<\/a>, a mixed-methods approach was used. The study involved reviewing hospital<\/a> records and conducting interviews with key stakeholders, including hospital<\/a> administrators, waste<\/a> management officers, and healthcare workers. The study also involved observing the incineration<\/a> process and collecting data on the types and quantities of waste<\/a> generated and incinerated.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, the Kibungo Level Two Teaching Hospital waste incinerator<\/a> is an effective solution for reducing bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. The incinerator<\/a> has significantly reduced the volume of waste<\/a> generated by the hospital<\/a>, minimizing the risks associated with bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. The study recommends that other healthcare facilities in Rwanda<\/a> and beyond consider implementing similar waste<\/a> management solutions to reduce the risks associated with bio-medical<\/a> waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n
