Waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> is a common practice for managing medical<\/a> waste<\/a> in hospitals, particularly in developing countries where access to modern waste<\/a> management facilities is limited. However, the combustion<\/a> of waste<\/a> releases toxic pollutants into the air, posing significant risks to human health<\/a> and the environment. This study aims to investigate the air quality and health<\/a> impacts of waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> at Kalulushi General Hospital<\/a> in Zambia, comparing the results with international standards and guidelines.<\/p>\n

Background<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Kalulushi General Hospital<\/a> is a major healthcare facility located in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia, serving a population of over 150,000 people. The hospital<\/a> generates a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, including infectious and non-infectious waste<\/a>, which is currently managed through incineration<\/a>. The hospital<\/a>’s incinerator<\/a> is a simple, non-scrubber<\/a> type, which burns waste<\/a> at high temperatures, releasing pollutants into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/p>\n

This study employed a comparative research design, combining both qualitative and quantitative methods.
