Introduction:
\nZakho General Hospital<\/a>, located in the Dohuk Governorate of Iraq<\/a>, is one of the major healthcare facilities in the region. The hospital<\/a> generates a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, which poses a significant threat to public health<\/a> and the environment if not disposed of properly. The current waste<\/a> management practice at the hospital<\/a> is incineration<\/a>, which has been a topic of concern due to its potential environmental<\/a> and health<\/a> impacts. This study aims to compare the existing waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> method with alternative treatment methods, such as autoclaving and microwave treatment, to identify the most effective and environmentally friendly approach for managing medical<\/a> waste<\/a> at Zakho General Hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Background:<\/strong>
\nMedical<\/a> waste<\/a> management is a critical issue in healthcare facilities worldwide. The improper disposal<\/a> of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> can lead to the spread of diseases, contamination of soil and water, and environmental<\/a> pollution<\/a>. In Iraq<\/a>, the management of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> is regulated by the Ministry of Health<\/a> and the Ministry of Environment. However, the lack of infrastructure and resources has hindered the implementation of effective waste<\/a> management practices in many healthcare facilities, including Zakho General Hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Methodology:<\/strong>
\nThis comparative study was conducted at Zakho General Hospital<\/a> over a period of six months. The study involved the collection and analysis of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> generated by the hospital<\/a>, as well as the evaluation of three treatment methods: incineration<\/a>, autoclaving, and microwave treatment.
