In Tanzania<\/a>, the Tabora Regional Hospital<\/a> has been using a waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> to manage its medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. This article aims to assess the effectiveness of the Tabora Regional Hospital waste incinerator<\/a> in managing medical<\/a> waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n

Medical<\/a> waste<\/a> management is a significant challenge in Tanzania<\/a>, particularly in rural areas where resources are limited. The Tabora Regional Hospital<\/a>, located in the Tabora region of Tanzania<\/a>, generates a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> daily. The hospital<\/a>’s waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> was installed to manage this waste<\/a> and prevent environmental<\/a> and health<\/a> hazards. However, the effectiveness of the incinerator<\/a> in managing medical<\/a> waste<\/a> has not been fully assessed.<\/p>\n

Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Tabora Regional Hospital<\/a> is a referral hospital<\/a> that provides healthcare services to a population of over 2 million people. The hospital<\/a> generates approximately 100 kg of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> daily, including infectious waste<\/a>, sharps, and non-infectious waste<\/a>. The waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> was installed in 2015, with the capacity to burn 50 kg of waste<\/a> per hour. The incinerator<\/a> is designed to burn waste<\/a> at a temperature<\/a> of 1000\u00b0C, which is sufficient to destroy pathogenic microorganisms.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n

This study used a mixed-methods approach to assess the effectiveness of the Tabora Regional Hospital waste incinerator<\/a>.
