Waste<\/a> to Energy<\/a>: Exploring the Potential of Clinique G\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Mahoko’s Incinerator<\/a> to Generate Power and Reduce Waste<\/a> in Rwanda<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Rwanda<\/a>, a small East African country, is facing a significant challenge in managing its waste<\/a>. The country’s rapid urbanization and growing population have led to an increase in waste<\/a> generation, with the capital city Kigali alone producing over 300 tons of waste<\/a> daily. However, Rwanda<\/a> is also known for its innovative approach to environmental<\/a> management, and one such initiative is the Waste<\/a> to Energy<\/a> (WtE) project at Clinique G\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Mahoko, a private hospital<\/a> in Kigali. This article explores the potential of the hospital<\/a>’s incinerator<\/a> to generate power and reduce waste<\/a> in Rwanda<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Problem of Waste<\/a> Management in Rwanda<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Rwanda<\/a>’s waste<\/a> management system is still in its infancy, and the country lacks adequate infrastructure to handle the growing amounts of waste<\/a>. In 2018, Clinique G\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Mahoko, a private hospital<\/a> in Kigali, installed an incinerator<\/a> to manage its medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. The incinerator<\/a>, which uses a combustion<\/a> process to treat waste<\/a>, has a capacity to handle 100 kg of waste<\/a> per hour.
