It burns approximately 300 tons of trash per day, releasing a cocktail of pollutants into the air, including particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and volatile organic compounds. These pollutants have been linked to a range of serious health problems, including respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

Local residents have long complained about the incinerator’s odors, ash, and soot, which they claim have caused a range of health problems, from headaches and nausea to respiratory issues and cancer. Many have also expressed concern about the incinerator’s impact on the local environment, including the nearby Medford Lakes and the surrounding woodlands.

Despite these concerns, the incinerator continues to operate, with the county claiming that it is a necessary facility for managing the region’s waste.
