Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The increasing amount of hospital<\/a> waste<\/a> generated in Iraq<\/a> has raised concerns about the environmental<\/a> and health<\/a> impacts of waste<\/a> management practices. Hospital<\/a> waste<\/a> incineration<\/a>, in particular, has been widely used in Iraq<\/a> as a means of disposing of hazardous medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. However, this method has been criticized for its potential to release toxic pollutants into the environment, posing significant risks to human health<\/a> and the environment. This study aimed to investigate the environmental<\/a> and health<\/a> risks associated with hospital<\/a> waste<\/a> incineration<\/a> at Al Khaial, Iraq<\/a>, from the perspective of local communities.<\/p>\n

Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Al Khaial is a densely populated area in Iraq<\/a> with several hospitals and healthcare facilities. The hospitals in this area generate a significant amount of waste<\/a>, including hazardous medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, which is often incinerated on-site. The incineration<\/a> process involves burning<\/a> waste<\/a> at high temperatures, which can release toxic pollutants, such as dioxins, furans, and particulate matter, into the air. These pollutants can have severe health<\/a> and environmental<\/a> impacts, including respiratory problems, cancer, and damage to ecosystems.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n

The study recommends that hospitals and healthcare facilities in Al Khaial adopt alternative waste<\/a> management practices, such as recycling and composting, and implement measures to reduce pollution<\/a> and protect public health<\/a>.<\/p>\n
