In an effort to promote sustainable development and improve healthcare waste management<\/a>, Nyagatare District Hospital<\/a> in Rwanda<\/a> has taken a significant step towards achieving the United Nations<\/a>’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the installation of a modern waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a>. This initiative not only addresses the hospital<\/a>’s waste<\/a> management challenges but also contributes to the country’s commitment to meeting the SDGs, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health<\/a> and Well-being), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Disposal<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The proper management of healthcare waste<\/a> is a critical issue in Rwanda<\/a>, as in many other developing countries. The lack of adequate waste<\/a> disposal<\/a> facilities and practices can lead to environmental<\/a> pollution<\/a>, health<\/a> risks, and the spread of diseases. Nyagatare District Hospital<\/a>, which serves a population of over 300,000 people, was facing significant challenges in managing its waste<\/a>, including medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, sharps, and other hazardous materials.<\/p>\n
