The proper management of healthcare waste<\/a> is a critical aspect of infection control and public health<\/a> in any country. Tanzania<\/a>, like many other developing countries, faces significant challenges in managing its healthcare waste<\/a>, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of funding, and limited human resources. However, some healthcare facilities in the country are making efforts to improve their waste<\/a> management practices, including the use of incinerators. This article reviews the healthcare waste management<\/a> practices at Bugando Medical<\/a> Centre (BMC) in Mwanza, Tanzania<\/a>, with a focus on its incinerator<\/a> and its contribution to infection control.<\/p>\n

Bugando Medical<\/a> Centre is a tertiary hospital<\/a> located in Mwanza, Tanzania<\/a>, and is one of the largest referral hospitals in the country. The hospital<\/a> provides a wide range of medical<\/a> services, including pediatrics, obstetrics, surgery, and dental care, to a population of over 13 million people in the Lake Zone region. Like many other healthcare facilities in Tanzania<\/a>, BMC generates a significant amount of healthcare waste<\/a>, including infectious, pathological, and non-infectious waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Healthcare Waste Management<\/a> Practices at BMC<\/strong><\/p>\n

BMC has an incinerator<\/a> that is used to manage its healthcare waste<\/a>.
