Evaluating the Efficacy of the Naromoru Health<\/a> Centre Waste<\/a> Incinerator<\/a> in Reducing Medical<\/a> Waste<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The management of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> is a critical aspect of healthcare facilities, as it poses significant risks to human health<\/a> and the environment if not handled properly. In response to these concerns, the Naromoru Health<\/a> Centre in Kenya installed a waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> to mitigate the risks associated with medical<\/a> waste<\/a>. This article aims to evaluate the efficacy of the Naromoru Health<\/a> Centre waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a> in reducing medical<\/a> waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, which includes infectious and non-infectious materials, requires specialized handling and disposal<\/a> to prevent the spread of diseases and environmental<\/a> pollution<\/a>. The Naromoru Health<\/a> Centre, like many other healthcare facilities, generates a significant amount of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>, including syringes, gloves, and other infectious materials. To address this issue, the centre installed a waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a>, which is designed to burn medical<\/a> waste<\/a> at high temperatures, reducing its volume and minimizing the risk of infection.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This study employed a descriptive cross-sectional design to evaluate the efficacy of the Naromoru Health<\/a> Centre waste<\/a> incinerator<\/a>. Data was collected through observations, interviews, and review of records. The study sample consisted of healthcare workers, waste<\/a> management personnel, and patients who<\/a> had visited the health<\/a> centre. A questionnaire was used to collect data on the types and quantities of medical<\/a> waste<\/a> generated, the functioning of the incinerator<\/a>, and the perceived effectiveness of the waste<\/a> management system.<\/p>\n

To improve the effectiveness of the waste<\/a> management system, the centre should prioritize regular maintenance and repairs of the incinerator<\/a>, as well as provide ongoing training and awareness programs for healthcare workers.   3. Alternative waste<\/a> management strategies<\/strong>: The centre should consider implementing alternative waste<\/a> management strategies, such as recycling and composting, to minimize the environmental<\/a> impact of medical<\/a> waste<\/a>.<\/li>\n
